Great Books
Adventure into some of the best books ever written, like Orwell’s 1984, Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, Plato’s Republic, Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried, or something of your own choosing. We help young readers stay motivated and attentive, so reading is fun and informative! Let us know what you need and we’ll make you a plan!
Poetry
Poems are a great way to practice close, careful reading without hours of independent homework after class. Plus, studying poetry gives students an opportunity to meet famous authors and ideas, learn about important moments in history, read challenging writing, and maybe write some of their own! We’ve done this course a lot, so we can customize on themes like nature, style, storytelling, feminism, and much more. We also encourage our young authors to submit their writing. One of our students has been published 5 times!
Short Stories
There’s so many great authors out there; cover more ground by reading short stories instead of long novels. Like poetry, short stories also allow us to teach close reading skills without giving hours of independent homework. This class often focuses on dystopias, but we can also integrate themes like animals and love. Or let us know what you like, and we’ll make something new just for you!
Study Skills/Summer learning...
Some students need general help editing essays, getting through tests, organizing their time, or building reading and writing skills. We can also help students maintain and grow these skills during the summer with individualized learning plans. Let us know what you need and we’ll make you a plan!.
